Abortion

Abortion is one of the most controversial issue on several countries especially Philippines. It is defined as the removal of the embryo from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.

Abortion is common to those teenagers who got pregnant at early age and got scared to the responsibility and consequences of their worldly actions.

– Ben Shapiro

In order for them to get rid of their problem, they chose to abort the fetus in their womb. In order for them not to be judge by the society, they abort the fetus. In order for them to continue living free, they end the baby’s life.

According to the Article II Section 12 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution that the state recognizes the sanctity of the family life and shall protect and strengthen the family as a basic autonomous social institution. It shall equally protect the life of the mother and life of the unborn from conception.

Even though it’s just fetus orblood, the fact that you do not give hat fetus a chance to see the beauty of the world and end it’s life by aborting it, you technically commit a crime. It’s a god’s gift. You should be thankful of the blessings. He/she will be the rainbow after you experience storm.

Psalm 139:13

For thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Remember Me

“Remember me” is the thematic song in the movie entitled “Coco” which is heard multiple times throughout the film.

This song was the signature song of Ernesto Dela Cruz, because he performed this before his shocking death that’s why it became the ultimate tribute to his career and legacy as one of Mexico’s greatest musicians of all times.

But this song was not really his but Hector’s. It was really Hector’s work. He wrote the song as a lullaby to his daughter Coco to be close to her and let her remember him even though he was gone.

In my research, I found out that “Remember Me” is really a heartfelt song written by a father (Hector) to his daughter (Coco). Hector wrote this song for Coco for her to remember his father no matter how far apart they are. According to Abby Postlewaite, she stated that “Hector’s love for Coco shines through the lyrics of the song very strongly.”

Remember me was also a remembrance of the dead because this song imploring those listener to remember their loved ones who’ve already passed away, like what was stated by Luke Penny, “The film’s characters yearn to be remembered, whether that’s in pursuit of boundless fame or just to be kept alive in the memory of loved one. The author wrote this story maybe because he wants us to value our family, love them even though they are far away from us, even if it takes heaven or hell, we need to love and remember them because they are our family. The author not only wants us to value our family but also to pursue our dreams in life though there’s so much hindrance or trials blocking our way.

Have you seen in the movie coco and their flower. Flower is symbolized like a ticket stub in black pink concert you will not go inside if you don’t have a ticket. In the movie, if you don’t have a marigold petal or flower and of course the blessing, you will not go the land of the living.

VILLAIN

by Rogel Valencia

Ernesto de la Cruz

In the movie “Coco” their archetypal characters and one of the archetypal characters is Ernesto de la Cruz. He is a villain archetype. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, villain is a character in a story, movie, etc… who does bad things. I also find other villain character that I can compare to Ernesto de la Cruz and the character I find is Gollum or also known Smeagol, he is a villain character in the movie of “The Lord of the Rings”.

Ernesto de la Cruz is a villain character because based on the movie, Ernesto de la Cruz murder Hector to keep his fame that’s why I consider him as a villain character. According also to fandom, Ernesto de la Cruz is the villain that attempts to kill Hector with a poisoned drink in order to steal his songs and achieve the fame for himself. In the movie of The Lord of the Rings, Gollum consider as a villain because he murder his own kin and bestfriend Deogol in his birthday after seeing the rings. Ernesto de la Cruz and Gollum is similar because they are obsessed and murderous, and they will do anything for fame or power.

Gollum or also known as Smeagol

Ernesto de la Cruz and Gollum is a villain because he cares this reputation and willing to kill someone for fame or power to keep his reputation. They don’t care if they harm someone the only hing they want is they goodness and power.

Spirit Guides

by Joyce Alexandra Andres

Alebrijes or Spirit Guides

Alebrijes or spirit Guides are brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures or mythical creature. It is very known in Mexico. Pedro Linares make the first Alebrijes. Every alebrijes is a chimaera animal.

Pedro Linares

In the movie Coco, there is a Xolo dog Dante, with a tongue that always sticks out and often wags its tail, who always accompanies Miguel wherever he goes. Dante was inspired by the Xolo breed which is the national dog of Mexico. According to Lee Unkrich, the Xolo is often featured in the legends of the Aztec where the traveler needs a company of a Xolo to make their journey through the afterlife. We can also see in the movie when Miguel passes on the table full of Alebrijes, Dante is seen there, in a trash can foreshadowing that Dante is a spirit guide.

In Mexican culture, spirit guides are significant in their lives. They believed that you can accomplish the thing you want to do easily with their help. In my opinion, the author include spirit guides in the film not just to introduce the Mexican culture but to imply to audiences that in achieving our dreams and goals, we need to have someone who can give company and support to us.
